School girl in uniform looking unhappySuspension and permanent exclusion is a regular topic on our enquiry line.

So, we have created a suite of information resources for parent carers to help answer some of your questions and support your conversations with schools and other settings.

There are four webpages in this new section:

  • About suspension and permanent exclusion – what they are, the law, when they can be used, how they are given and the impact on children.
  • At risk of suspension and permanent exclusion – what does it mean if your child is at risk, working with school to prevent suspension and exclusion, behaviour, off-site direction and managed moves.
  • Suspension – what this is and how one is given, the law, education while your child is suspended, reintegration meetings and challenging decisions.
  • Permanent exclusion – what this means, the law, what happens afterwards, challenging decisions.

We also have a top tips guide to a successful reintegration meetings.

As always, our information is based on the questions we get asked day-to-day by parent carers. It’s full of practical ideas and strategies that you can use and follows a question and answer format. Information is available as web pages and as PDF factsheets which you can download. Or, you can contact us for a copy.
