Training and information events

One of the ways that DiAS supports parents and professionals is by sharing our knowledge and expertise.

We often work directly with parents to deliver our training and also co-produce sessions with other organisations and teams.

We inform and support parents by:

  • delivering training
  • running workshops and seminars
  • putting on information events
  • telling others about the work we do, and how we can support parents, carers, children and young people

Training and information events for parents

All of our parent training is free and currently takes place online and in person.

Details of any training sessions will always be advertised on our website and our Facebook page.

Making Sense of SEND

Lightbulbs with the words training, skills and education inside

These sessions are free for parent carers in Devon and can be done online or in person. The aim is to help parent carers understand some of the most important information and the most useful skills to develop when supporting a child with SEND. They will explain the basics about special educational needs, SEN support and how the SEND system works and help parents to feel more confident about speaking up for their child and working with professionals.

You may find it most useful if you’re new to SEND or have a child being supported without an EHC plan, but anyone is welcome to join!

There are two online sessions which you can do one after the other, (part one followed by part two) or separately as individual stand-alone sessions. All the training will be repeated each term so if you miss one session, you can join the next time.

Online sessions
Part one: About SEND and school
Part two: How to take part and share what you know

In person session
Parts one and two together

You can find training dates and booking details in our news pages or on our Facebook page.

Making Sense of EHC plans and reviews

This training is currently in development, but like the Making Sense of SEND training it will be made up of two online sessions and one in-person event.

The training will help parent carers understand their child’s EHC plan, what is in it, how the support works and what their role is. There will also be information about the review process and how to take part successfully.

To find out more about the sessions, contact Sarah Smith.
