There are local and national organisations and services that support families of children with SEND. Here you can find a list of the main ones.​

Devon’s SEND Local Offer

Devon’s SEND Local Offer is the education, health and social care services and support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) from birth to 25. The website includes information about:

  • EHC plans (including how to request an assessment)
  • Preparing for adulthood
  • School transport
  • SEND, what it is and what support there might be in school and colleges
  • Early help
  • Personal budgets
  • Admissions and choosing a school

Parent Carer Forum Devon (PCFD)

Parent Carer Forum Devon is an organised group of parents and carers of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within Devon local authority. Their aim is to make sure that services provided by education, health and care meet the needs of children with SEND and their families.

Devon Family Hubs

Family Hubs are a way of bringing together all the support a family may need. They serve as a central point of access online, over the phone or in person for all families, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) up to age 25.

Quids for Kids

Quids for Kids is a service run by Citizens Advice Bureau, giving specialist advice about benefits to:

  • families of children (or young people up to the age of 21) with additional needs, a long-term illness or disability
  • care leavers
  • young homeless people
  • foster parents
  • people looking after a child with a special guardianship order

Children and Family Health Devon

Children and Family Health Devon provide children’s community health services across Devon. It’s the single point of access to several health and social care services, and some aspects of education assessment, that support children and young people and their families and carers in Devon. These include Child and Adolescent Mental Health services (CAMHs), occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and the autism assessment service.

Contact have a free helpline for parents and carers where you can get information and advice on a range of issues, including medical information, benefits advice and information about special educational needs. Contact also produce a range of publications and other resources about SEND.
